Happy Halloween!
From my little swashbucklers to all of you!
Squishy has walking pneumonia but she's doing MUCH better today after a 5-hr ER trip last night. While she was there she fell into the corner of something and busted her eyebrow open. I guess the hospital is the best place to be for an accident to happen!!
We had a great Halloween. We carved pumpkins at grandma and papa's house, then went trick-or-treating around the neighborhood. The only downside of Halloween this year (besides pneumonia of course!) was the temperature. It was H-O-T! Hottest Halloween I can remember, ever. It had to be in the 80's! It doesn't feel like fall at 80+ degrees!
Hope everyone had a fun and safe Halloween!

Oh, hello...
I have a blog? What?
Oops. I am a bad bloggy mommy.
I've started babysitting my good friend's little baby boy, so I guess I have an excuse. I've been BUSY! PLUS, we've been playing in lots of parks, and we've gone on a few small trips.
All is going well, school is in session so Buggles is having a blast, of course. Squishy and daddy are spending a lot of time together.
It's FALL! My favorite season. Although it doesn't quite feel like it yet. 100+ degrees, still. It looks like it will start cooling off (to the 90s but I'll take what I can get!) in the next few weeks. I'm planning on going apple-picking sometime soon!

Rainbow Muffin Tin
Muffin Tin Monday had a theme this week: RAINBOW! I had to get a little bit creative, as I didn't have anything blue! I'm jealous of everyone that has fresh blueberries this week! Red apples, orange carrots, yellow tomatoes, green peppers, blue easter egg with a treat inside, purple jam on toast! Fun week!
Buggles got this Play-Doh set as a present and we had so fun creating a little light-up aquarium out of play-doh!
Super yummy honey-balsamic chicken.

Muffin Tins and Bows
I love the idea that Sycamore Stirrings has come up with, Muffin Tin Meals. I've been meaning to jump on the muffin tin bandwagon for a few weeks now and I finally got around to it. Squishy loved it! Buggles was at school but I'm sure it will be something she is into as well. We will definitely try to do the rainbow themed muffin tin on Monday!!
These are from my first foray into hairbow creating. I'm pretty pleased with the pinkish one. Buggles is my girly girl and she loves them! I definitely see multitudes of hairbow making in our future!

Butter Making and other things
My computer has risen from the dead. Yay! I will get some pictures up later this evening. Thank goodness she's working again, I was about to start panicking.
We spent most of the week house sitting for my parents...it was a nice little vacation in our own town! We lounged around the pool most of the time. Squishy and I played outside quite a bit because we had a break in the weather. It was 90-something instead of 100-something. I'll take what I can get!
I had seen a few blogs making butter in the past few weeks. I saw that my mom had heavy cream on hand and I wanted to try it out. So simple! Put it in a jar and shake for 20 minutes, until the butter separates from the milk and voilĂ ! Butter. It was so much better than 'regular' butter. I will definitely try it again with Buggles soon.
We're so happy that she's home! 4 days was too long without her. Squishy is so glad her sissy is home.
I just had to enter this giveaway on Grosgrain. Such an adorable little dress.

Technical Difficulties
Our (only 6 months old) computer apparently contracted a virus or something. It is dead, dead, dead. I won't be able to do many updates for awhile, though I will try! We're at my parents' house for a few days, house-sitting while they are on vacation. Buggles is with them and we miss her so! Squishy is so lost without her big sissy, so sad =(
Cross your fingers that we get the computer fixed, I am dying a little bit inside if we lose all of the pictures that I (stupidly) didn't back-up. Argh!

Happy Independence Day!
One day late. Better late than never, yes? We had a great day, even though we didn't see any fireworks at all. Not a one! Our county doesn't allow home fireworks any more, this is the first year they've done it. It was weird to not see/hear fireworks all night long. We opted to not go to the local firework show, it's always WAY super crowded and hot and it didn't start until nearly 10:00. We went to a swimming BBQ at my parents' house for most of the day. We had a blast. It was one of the most fun parties we've had in awhile!
My husband's birthday is tomorrow, the 6th, so we also made yesterday's BBQ a kind of birthday party, too. I saw this cake on Wisdom of the Moon and I was inspired to try it on my own for his birthday cake. DISMAL. FAILURE. Oh, my goodness. It was disastrous. Apparently candy making is not my forte. I am so stubborn I haven't quite accepted this yet. I will get it right, I WILL! I burnt the first batch horribly, the second batch started to burn and turned a bit yellow, so when I tried to dye the candy blue it ended up green. My toppers ended up looking nothing like fireworks whatsoever.
The general consensus was 'sea urchins'
Meh!
The cake part was FANTASTIC, though. My go-to cake recipe is Dorie Greenspan's Perfect Party Cake. I make this for every occasion and always get compliments on it. Delicious.
Lots of swimming. The girls LOVE the pool. They would stay in there all day if they could. We put the tarp up and it really helps keep the water cool. We're in the desert and when it's 120 degrees outside the water is about 95 and not very refreshing at all! The tarp really helps. It also keeps sunburns at bay.
Gotta love trikes with bells on them, juice boxes, corn on the cob, watermelon (from our garden!) and kiddie tables!
Hope everyone had a great day! Happy 4th!

Buggles-ism
Me: What are these bumps on your forehead from?
Her: They're zits because I ate too much chicken.

More Summer Fun
Ahh, at last I am feeling a little bit better. These summertime colds are the WORST. Holy cow. I have barely been able to move from the couch all week. Thank goodness for The Daddy Person taking care of things around the house.
Yesterday was spent having some fun in the sun...the weather wasn't terrible (only 101, hah!) so we went swimming at grandma and papa's house.
And played at the sand table..this is what we do while we're drying off.
We also like to run around in the grass.
and feed the birds.
I've been doing some work in Buggles' room...we just got this super cute new coat rack that has been dubbed 'The Beautiful Costume Holder'
And, of course, 'the most beautiful fan in the world'
OH! Also, huge haul from the garden yesterday. Not pictured: our first watermelon!! It was tasty.

Lazy Day
I cannot kick this cold! I hate getting colds in the summer. I'm sure the shock to my system from going from air conditioning to 118 degree weather is not good at all.
Today was really mostly spent doing this:
And a lot of this:
Whose movies are whose? The world may never know....HINT: Dora's World Adventure's is not mama's!
Can you tell I'm on a Philippa Gregory kick? Jeez. Historical bodice rippers. Not something I'm usually into. But these are good!
I did spend some time in the kitchen today. We have such an abundance of eggplant in the garden, I am looking for new recipes every day (hint, hint) Today we had baba ghanoush and flat bread. Mmm.
We had tropical gazpacho for dinner. Cool, refreshing, and I didn't have to turn the oven on. My kind of meal.

Meh
A little evening view from our porch. Love the green trim, don't you? I wish those clouds would bring us some rain.
I have a terrible sinus infection. Terrible! It was not helped in any way from all of the swimming I did today. Note to self: pools = pressure. No good for sinus infections! Barbeque at my parents' house today, it was fun. Except for when Squishy's diaper leaked on The Daddy Person. FunNY, but not fun. Also not fun: rearranging rooms. Can you spot the two children in that mess? Yikes.
Big girl bed day one for Squishy was an utter failure. Any tips? Buggles took to her big girl bed right from the start, no fusses or fights.
Fun: sneaking sprinkles with your sister by flashlight. Not fun: getting caught.

Welcome, Summer!
Happy first day of Summer! We're pretty much dying of heat exhaustion already but I guess that's nothing a little swimming and ice cream can't fix! Oh, and watermelon of course. Copious amounts of watermelon are definitely in order.
Perhaps another camping trip, to make up for the one we had in May. Pukefest 2008! Kids throwing up in a tent with a limited supply of water isn't something I'd wish on my worst enemy! The lake was beautiful, though.
Bug watching in the garden
Gardening, of course. Until the heat kills it, anyway!
What are your plans for summer?

The Beginning
Okay. I think I've finally customized this thing enough to satisfy me. For now.
I have decided that it is time for a new blog. And so...here it is! Life with Squishy and Buggles, the good, the bad, the hilarious. Photos, craft projects, outings. All of the fun (and not-so-fun) minutiae of our lives!
Some deets: I am 27, married to The Daddy Person, SAHM to my two daughters, Squishy and Buggles. Buggles is 4, about to start her second year of preschool. She is mama's litle mini-me. Shy, very smart, and very funny. She loves to spend time playing in her room, drawing, making up stories, "taking your order" and having tea parties. Squishy is our little firecracker. She's 1 1/2 years old. She keeps us on our toes more than I could have ever imagined! She is fiercely independent, loves bananas, and beating up her big sister.
We love crafting, cooking, gardening, taking pictures, going on adventures and more! Stick around!
